How Often Should You Really Get a Haircut?

The general rule of thumb

For most people, every 6–8 weeks keeps your shape sharp and your ends healthy. But it genuinely depends on your length, style and goals — so treat that as a starting point, not a hard rule.

If you're growing your hair out, you don't need to skip trims entirely. Small 'dusting' trims every 10–12 weeks remove split ends before they travel up the strand, which actually helps length look thicker and healthier.

By length and style

Short cuts, pixies and fades lose their shape fastest — every 3–5 weeks keeps them sharp. Bobs and lobs hold for around 6–8 weeks. Long hair can stretch to 8–12 weeks, focusing on the ends.

Fringes are the exception: a quick fringe trim every 2–4 weeks keeps it sitting right, and most salons (including ours) will do that as a quick tidy between full cuts.

Signs you're overdue

Your ends feel dry, rough or split; your style won't 'sit' the way it used to; or you're spending longer styling to get the same result. Those are all cues it's time to book in.

Regular cuts also pair well with colour and treatments — fresh ends make foils, balayage and smoothing treatments look their best for longer.
